Insect safari

Ants are insects that are very common, I have caught about 50 ants on my bug safari.  My sister and I found a rock at our Uncle’s house that has tons of bugs under and over it just like a bug paradise.  We have caught many palmetto bugs and roly-poly bugs. We made bug traps but only caught a palmetto bug.  We found lots of butterflies in the beautiful garden.  We had termites in our own house and had to get them exterminated because they were eating our beam that holds our roof up.  I didn’t see them but their frass (droppings from termites) was everywhere in the garage.  We left the house for the weekend and I looked at a picture of a termite, it was gross.  Termites are hiding most of the time and you can’t see them.  Some eat just dry wood and some eat wet wood.  In the wild, termites make tall dirty-sandy mounds.  They make small holes in their mound and when the wind blows, they vent the dry and hot air which is then replaces it with fresh cool air.  I hope you enjoyed learning about my insect safari.
