Galileo Galilei helped improve the telescope around 1609 which got him a job at a university. Johannes Kepler upgraded the telescope during 1611. Galileo was born 1564 in Pisa, Italy. Galileo was an astronomer and that’s part of why he wanted to upgrade the telescope. He designed a military compass and a thermometer, but he didn’t construct them. Galileo got books from Kepler about astronomy. He published books that were about his ideas around 1632. Although, wealthy people loved these books because Galileo said good things about the rich, most people during that time believed the Earth was the center of the solar system. In 1633 Galileo was sentenced to life in prison for heresy. Because he was old and sick, he was allowed to live out his life under house arrest. Galileo died around 1642. He impacted history by upgrading the telescope and making major scientific observations. My favorite part about Galileo is that he helped improve the telescope which astronomers use today to study stars, constellations and planets.
